Welcome to my latest blog. This one's informal

I’ve been blogging in some form or other since 2011, starting in WordPress and moving to Medium as the fickle winds of fashion changed. At this point I’m not sure where I should be blogging — is it possible to put a TikTok video on the blockchain? — but I figure I’ll try Substack this time around.

I do a lot of long-form tech writing in my books (my latest is quite a heavy one) and more medium-length, complex systems analysis as a contributor to the FLUX Review. My other Substack is more for product management advice.

In this Substack, I want to carve out a space for my shorter thoughts. Instead of regular posts, my current thinking is that this will be more like a jumble of playing cards, each with one idea, insight, or bit of advice I’ve gotten. I’m pulling inspiration from Alex Komoroske’s excellent Cards Compendium and Gordon Brander’s bag of patterns, which use a similar “deck of cards” metaphor.

I’ve had a bad habit of writing down a bunch of notes but letting them disappear into a black hole, never to be referenced again, and never to be shared with anyone else. With this, at least these ideas will get a URL.

But who knows? This site might evolve in unusual ways. Or maybe I’ll have to switch to writing TikTok posts on the blockchain. We’ll see. Feel free to subscribe.
